Need to adjust a gig after it's been accepted? Here's how:

  1. Open the active gig from the Gigs tab
  2. Tap "Request Adjustment"
  3. Choose what to change:
  4. Schedule, propose new dates or times
  5. Price, suggest a different rate
  6. Add a note explaining the reason
  7. Tap "Send Request"

The other person gets a notification and can accept, decline, or counter-propose. Both sides must agree before any changes take effect.

This keeps everything transparent and fair for both parties!

  1. You'll get a push notification
  2. Open the gig from your Gigs tab

  5. Accept, agree to the new terms

What are unlisted gigs?

Unlisted gigs are private, they don't appear in the public browse feed or search results. Only people with a direct link can see them.

HOW TO CREATE AN UNLISTED GIG

  1. Post a gig as usual (category, questions, schedule)
  2. On the Review screen (Step 4), toggle "Unlisted" on
  3. You'll see a confirmation that only people with the link can see this gig
  4. Tap "Publish"

HOW TO SHARE IT:

  • After publishing, share the gig link via text, email, or any messaging app
  • Only people who receive the link can view and apply

WHEN TO USE UNLISTED GIGS:

  • You want to hire a specific person you already know
  • You're sharing the gig with a small group (e.g., your teen's friend group)
  • You prefer privacy and don't want public applications

Unlisted gigs work exactly like regular gigs, same payment options, chat, reviews, and tracking. The only difference is visibility.

How does minimum wage guidance work when posting?

StudentGigs helps ensure fair pay by checking your gig rate against local minimum wage laws.

HOW IT WORKS: . A hint below the budget field shows: "Minimum wage in [your area] is $X.XX/hr" . If you try to proceed, a confirmation dialog appears . You must acknowledge you understand the wage laws before continuing

  • When you set an hourly rate for your gig, the app looks up the minimum wage for your area
  • If your rate is below the local minimum wage, you'll see a warning:

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • This applies to hourly gigs only (not flat-rate)
  • Minimum wages vary by state and city, the app uses your gig's location
  • You can still post below minimum wage (e.g., for informal neighborhood help), but you must confirm
  • Volunteer gigs have no pay requirement

This is a helpful guide only, users should also verify the correct local minimum wage themselves.

We include this to promote fair compensation and help neighbors understand local labor laws.

💰 Payments & Earnings

How does payment work on StudentGigs?

Getting paid is easy! Here's how it works:

  1. Complete your job
  2. The neighbor marks it complete
  3. They pay via credit/debit card via Stripe
  4. You get paid right away
  5. Payment goes to your Stripe account, then your bank

Students never pay fees, see 'What are the platform fees?' for details.

  4. Both of you get a receipt

Tips are 100% yours, zero fees! Card payments land in your Stripe balance instantly, then transfer to your bank in up to 5 business days.

What are the platform fees?

StudentGigs charges a service fee to the neighbor posting the job, not the student:

FOR NEIGHBORS (POSTING JOBS):

  • 20% service fee on marketplace jobs
  • 10% service fee on Book Me page bookings
  • No fee on volunteer opportunities
  • No fee on job applications

FOR STUDENTS:

  • No fees! You keep 100% of your earnings
  • Tips are always 100% yours
  • No hidden charges or deductions

HOW IT WORKS

When a neighbor posts a job at $20, they pay $24 total ($20 + $4 service fee). The student receives the full $20. Credit card processing fees are included in the service fee.

  3. You get 100% of the tip (no fees!)

  • The bank account was set up by your parent during Stripe verification
  • All payouts (cash-outs) go to this bank account
  • Transfers take up to 5 business days to arrive

  • Tutoring ($25/hr)
  • Dog walking ($15/hr)
  • Yard work ($20/hr)
  • Car washing ($20/hr)
  • Sports coaching ($30/hr)

PRODUCTS are things you make or sell, they have a flat price and customers buy them directly:

You can list both on the same page! Many students offer a mix, for example, a tutoring service AND baked products.

  3. Enter your teen's name and phone number
  4. They get a notification to accept

Track the invitation status on the Parent Status screen, it shows a 4-stage timeline from invite sent through confirmation!

Can I approve gigs before my teen accepts?

Yes! When your account is linked, you can require approval:

  • Your teen can browse gigs freely
  • When they apply, you get a notification with full gig details
  • A red "Pending Approvals" banner appears at the top of your Gigs tab
  • Each pending gig shows an approval card with your child's name, the gig title, and Approve/Decline buttons
  • Tap "View Details" to see the full gig before deciding
  • Pending approvals are sorted to the top so you never miss one
  • In multi-parent households, both parents can review and approve
  • Your teen can't proceed until you approve

You can also chat directly with the gig neighbor from the gig detail screen to ask questions before approving.

Can I see my teen's messages?

Yes:

  • Go to your parent dashboard
  • Tap "Messages" to see all conversations
  • Messages are clearly labeled as monitored
  • You get notifications for all chats your child is participating in

This helps ensure safe communication while respecting privacy. Your teen knows messages are visible to you.

How do I set privacy controls for my teen?

Customize safety settings through your linked parent account:

  • Under My Profile → Manage Family
  • Set up whether gigs require your explicit approval, or you prefer to just be notified when they apply and are accepted for a gig
  • Set who can contact them
How do I know StudentGigs is safe for my teen?

StudentGigs has multiple safety layers:

  • Phone verification required for all users
  • Bidirectional parent linking with invitation tracking
  • Guardian attestation for age verification
  • Easy reporting of users to the StudentGigs team

We recommend:

  • Connecting your account for oversight
  • Having open conversations about online and physical safety
  • Meeting first-time employers in public
  • Checking reviews and ratings
  • Starting with gigs from known individuals or organizations

Your teen's safety is our top priority.

How are payments handled for minors?

Payment process for teens:

  • Payments go through Stripe (secure, trusted payment processor)
  • For teens under 18, a parent must co-sign the Stripe account
  • All transactions are tracked and viewable in the app
  • Parents can see earnings in their dashboard
  • Teens can view their earnings in Profile > Wallet
  • Tax forms (1099) issued if earnings exceed $600/year
  • Multiple children? Set up Stripe once, siblings are auto-activated

There are no platform fees for students using StudentGigs.

VIEWING EARNINGS

Go to Profile > Wallet to see each child's balance. If you have multiple kids, use the name selector at the top to switch between them.

You maintain oversight while your teen builds financial independence!

Do I need to set up payments for each child separately?

No! StudentGigs makes it easy for families with multiple teens:

  • When you set up Stripe for your first child, all your other linked children are automatically activated
  • Each child gets their own earnings balance, nothing is shared or mixed
  • You only go through the Stripe identity verification once
  • New children you link later are also auto-activated instantly

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Set up Stripe for your first teen (one-time identity + bank setup)
  2. Link additional teens via their profile
  3. Each new teen's Wallet shows "Active" immediately. No extra setup needed
  4. All payouts go to the same bank account you linked during initial setup

You can view each child's earnings separately using the student selector at the top of the Wallet screen.

How do I view each child's earnings and wallet?

If you have multiple teens linked to your account, the Wallet has a student selector at the top:

  1. Go to Profile > Wallet
  2. You'll see name chips for each linked child at the top
  3. Tap a child's name to view their individual balance and transactions
  4. Each child's earnings, tips, and payouts are tracked separately

WHAT YOU'LL SEE FOR EACH CHILD:

  • Available balance (ready to cash out)
  • Total lifetime earnings
  • Recent transactions with details (gig name, amount, tips, fees)
  • Payout history and status

All children share the same bank account for payouts, but their earnings are completely separate.
